Heart and Wildflowers: Samantha’s Family Session
August 31, 2024, gifted us one of those evenings that linger in your heart long after the sun has set. Nestled in the wildflower-covered fields of Heron Lake State Park in the Chama–Los Ojos Valley of northern New Mexico, we shared a slow, joy-filled afternoon with Samantha and her beautiful family.
While the lake remained just beyond the frame, the golden light dancing through the meadow more than made up for it. That light—soft, quiet, and full of warmth—was the perfect companion to the tender moments this family brought with them.
From the way Samantha smiled over her shoulder while holding hands with her son, to the laughter shared as she gently lifted her little one to sit on her husband’s shoulders—every interaction felt unscripted and full of love. The boys were energetic and playful, running between wildflowers and sharing giggles, while baby brother, nestled in his boots and green overalls, stole the show with those big, curious eyes and a pacifier that made him look even more huggable.
There’s something grounding about photographing in a place like this—no crowds, no distractions. Just fresh air, golden grass, and the closeness of family.
Samantha and her partner shared a quiet moment among the flowers, foreheads resting gently together as if the world slowed down just for them. And it did. That’s the kind of pause we try to capture through the lens: honest, intentional, and tender.
It was a session filled with movement and stillness, play and peace. And above all, love.
